With autumn creeping in during September, we’ve given some thought to the darker nights and colder weather and indoor activities that members of the whole family can enjoy.
Here are our five ‘must do’ activities and places to visit in the area around Richmond this autumn with some free or low-cost options too:
Love and Anger – The Music of Kate Bush
Kate Bush has seen a huge upsurge in popularity this year with her song Running up that Hill (A Deal with God) hitting number one all over the world, thanks in no small part to Stranger Things Season Four featuring the song in pivotal scenes (no spoilers here!).
We spotted this event which is just over the river in Teddington at the Landmark Arts Centre on Ferry Road.
Date: Friday 30th September, 19:15–22:30
Location: The Landmark Arts Centre, Ferry Lane, Teddington

Exercise in the Royal Parks
The Royal Parks are hosting a series of fitness events right into the autumn and Richmond Park will be playing host to energetic ‘Bootcamp’ sessions up to Sunday 30th Oct 2022. Booking is required but well worth it. We can’t think of much that can beat the location for some inspiration during exercise.
Date: Booking up to Sunday 30th Oct 2022
Location: Richmond Park

Mexico at Kew Gardens
Why not discover bold new artistic and horticultural installations across the Temperate House by renowned Mexican artist Betsabeé Romero, designer Fernando Laposse and UK award winning garden designer Jon Wheatley this October. The works each reflect the beauty and colour of Mexican culture and its deep connection with plants and the natural world in the stunning location that is Kew Gardens.
Date: 1st to 31st October 2022
Location: Temperate House, Kew Gardens

Family Workshop at the Museum: Spooky Stained Glass
The Museum of Richmond has a real treat for families, using a mix of real and replica historical objects from the Museum’s handling collection. Their workshops provide families with a hands-on experience where they learn more about the history of the local area, develop new skills by having a go at arts and craft activities, and spend quality time together.
The workshops are aimed at children aged 5-11 years old. They will even make things more challenging for children aged eleven and over.
Date: 25th to 28th October 2022
Location: Old Town Hall, Whittaker Ave, Richmond, Richmond Upon Thames, TW9 1TP
These are just five of dozens of activities and events in the Richmond area, so this list only barely scratches the surface of what could be a packed diary for most this autumn. As with all things, it is a suggestion to book early, and we’ve provided the links to get started. When we checked a broad range of events, we discovered about a third of them are either free or have a very low cost, putting some excellent events within the budgets of most.
It is best to jump over to Visit Richmond to find out more about what’s on. So, wrap up and stay warm and enjoy the autumn in Richmond.
