We’ve all heard the one about ‘moving home’ being the most stressful thing you will ever do. It’s an odd concept that one of the most exciting times in our lives, one that brings all the possibilities of fresh starts and new beginnings, can also get us all stressed out.
Moving home shouldn’t be so stressful. Think about it for a moment. What makes the process stand on its own as possibly the most stressful thing you will ever do?
Simply put it’s being ‘organised.’ It’s a word that looms large in the moving process. It’s true that there are a number of different parties involved and timings might not always match up. But if everything else around the process is well organised, it can lessen the stress levels of all involved.
Putting all our years of experience to work we think these four key factors will help your sale go far smoother and get you moving far quicker.
Get an early start
Starting the moving process early in spring could mean being in your home before the new school year starts and during the drier summer months. Importantly, it will mean more potential buyers as the market gears up for the busiest time of year.
Get on top of the paperwork
We suggest making time to keep on top of the important paperwork that comes with moving home. Correspondence from solicitors, surveyors and mortgage brokers should be dealt with quickly. Keeping on top of things will help keep the momentum going with your sale and purchase. Delays with important responses could add weeks to the sale.
Arranging how you will move
Believe us when we tell you that a moving company can make all the difference to your move. Yes, it is possible to move on a budget, but a professional moving company can make help the process no end. Apart from taking the pain out of the heavy lifting, they come with bags of experience and are able to ensure everything arrives in one piece. Most offer packing services and that means you are more likely to find the kettle on arrival in your new home.
Remember though, that the summer is a busy time for removal businesses so securing their services and getting a date in their diary is a high priority on your ‘moving home’ do to list.
Get your home packed in easy steps
With the sale moving well, and as the big moving day looms large, it’s time to start to put your mind to packing up a lifetime of memories and belongings.
Getting organised to arrange sturdy boxes and packing tape early on is vital. Plan to start to get contents of storage rooms, garages, sheds, and loft spaces boxed up and ready to go. You certainly don’t want to have to do these spaces on top of the main rooms in your home. This early planning will pay off in the longer term.
However, if your moving company are going to do everything for you, make sure you create a box of moving essentials like medicines, spare clothes (especially for kids) and any important daily items you need quick access to.
Each box should be marked up clearly by room because you will not remember what’s in them later on. It will also make placing the boxes in the right place in your new home far easier for the movers. So, use a marker pen and coloured labels that help your movers identify quickly that yellow is the kitchen and red is the shed and so on.
When you embrace being ‘organised’, the entire moving process becomes more manageable and far less stressful. We even think it helps make the process more enjoyable.
